Gardner in Greener Pastures?

And just like that, Gardner Minshew's time in Jacksonville has come to a close.
While Minshew took the internet by storm with his quirky personality and gutsy play his rookie season, he failed to develop in 2020 prompting the team to sit him for most of the back half of the year. The Jags ultimately drafted quarterback McDreamy Trevor Lawrence first overall in the 2021 NFL draft, making Minshew an obvious cut or trade candidate.
The conditional 6th round pick Philly gave up for Minshew feels like good value to both franchises. The Jags knew that Lawrence was starting all along, but removing Minshew should provide a little stress-relief for the first-overall draft selection. Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles meanwhile may suddenly have some job security concerns.
It's not that Minshew is likely to outplay the promising second-year quarterback. But rather that the clamoring for the back up player is bound to happen if the team stumbles out of the gate, regardless of whether or not Hurts is truly the mitigating factor. If Hurts isn't putting up flashy numbers in those losses, I can already foresee the Minshew chants. Yikes.
Trade: Jaguars are sending QB Gardner Minshew II to the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional 2022 sixth-round pick, per sources. The 6th-round pick could go to a 5th if Minshew plays in 50 percent of the plays in three games this season.
