Adam Schefter announced that sources informed him that the New Orleans Saints have selected Jameis Winston as their starting quarterback, at least for the opening contest versus the Green Bay Packers, in a move that surprised absolutely no one.
Jameis Winston has been named the Saints' starting quarterback and will make his first start for New Orleans on opening day vs. Green Bay Packers, per sources.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 27, 2021
Look, here's the thing. Jameis isn't going to be the dynamite fantasy option that he was in Tampa not so long ago. Jameis won't likely huck the ball upwards of 40 times a game on what is quietly one of the leading rushing offenses in the league, having accomplished that with the statuesque Drew Brees behind center for much of that time. It helps when you have a player of the caliber of Alvin Kamara, but let's not forget that Taysom Hill will still be on the roster.
Taysom Hill will get time behind center on third and shorts or in goal-line situations. Taysom Hill will still be used as a flex-back, quarterback, halfback and the occasional snap at tight end.
And just like when hall of fame quarterback Drew Brees was taken off the field in some of those spots, so too will Winston, thus capping his fantasy value.
I'm ecstatic for Winston. Kudos on his accomplishment. I'm now going to try and sell that lottery ticket before it depreciates in value after Hill scores two rushing TDs week one.
I want no part of this two-headed monster.
